Work with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines in Miami, Florida to re-imagine a core area of the SeaPlex - an indoor, multi-purpose arena on-ship. Before, the room was a barely used game room with an xbox. We were charged with creating an entirely new game experience that would be unique to Royal Caribbean. We embarked on the creation of SASU.
From the on-set, we created a few key experience pillars that would guide us through our entire project lifecycle. We wanted our gamers to use their bodies, to have an easy to learn game mechanic, influence repeat plays, and set up our game for future expansion.
Our work included everything inside the room - from initial concept discussions to game development using Unity to final install and long-term support.
Building SASU started with User Journey Mapping where we laid down our objectives and began work. SASU works as an "endless scroller" where the user is given a set number of lives and tries to swim as long as possible, collecting upgrades and lives along the way that generate more points and keep the user going.
Over 50,000 games have been played over the past 5 years as the game also evolved to fit on multiple ships. We also rolled out a pay-to-play variation using the visitors room cards for payment.
